Cancer center will relocate, but not necessarily out of town

A front page headline in the print edition of the Nov. 12 Register Citizen and earlier online version of this story mistakenly reported that Charlotte Hungerford Hospital's Center for Cancer Care is "leaving town."
Federal regulations that govern the center's planned partnership with Yale-New Haven Hospital require it to be located within 35 miles of York Street in New Haven, but that would allow locations on the South End of Torrington in addition to Litchfield and points south, not require it to be placed "in the Thomaston area" as we reported.
A full explanation of our mistake can be found here.
A column about how the mistake was made and why we decided to run a correction on the front page, where the mistake happened, can be found here.
